Key Capabilities

The TruBend 3100 is the fastest press brake in its class — combining a rigid closed H-frame, laser-based angle measurement, and BendGuard safety to deliver maximum throughput without compromising precision.

Closed H-Frame Design

The closed H-frame provides significantly higher rigidity than open C-frame press brakes of equivalent tonnage. The frame resists deflection under load and enables the backgauge to travel and operate across the entire bending length — with unrestricted access at both ends of the machine.

Full-Bed Backgauge Travel

ACB Laser Angle Measurement

A non-contact optical system projects a laser line onto the sheet surface and a camera measures the actual bend angle in real time — no physical contact with the workpiece. Supports four modes (ACB Speed, ACB Smart, Identify, Copy Pressing Depth) for ±0.3° accuracy from 30° to 150° across all materials.

Non-Contact · ±0.3°

BendGuard Safety System

Two laser beams extend from the upper tool to protect the hazard zone throughout the stroke. An obstruction breaks the beam and stops the machine instantly. Critically, BendGuard lets the ram travel at full rapid speed down to just 2mm above the sheet before slowing — maximizing cycle speed without compromising operator safety.

4-Axis CNC Backgauge

The 4-axis backgauge (X, R, Z1, Z2) travels the full machine bed width without restriction — including bending at the far ends. Independent Z1/Z2 lateral positioning handles complex geometries and asymmetric flanges. Expandable to 5 axes for advanced applications requiring an additional degree of positioning freedom.

T3500T Multi-Touch Control

The 17-inch multi-touch T3500T control features 3D color graphic visualization of every bend, automatic bend sequence calculation, collision checking, offline programming via TecZone Bend software, barcode reader compatibility, and full network connectivity — reducing setup time and programming errors.

Safety-Click Tooling System

Tools up to 12 inches long are inserted vertically from below and lock with an audible Safety-Click — preventing accidental drops during installation. Lightweight tool options offer more than 30% weight reduction, reducing operator strain on long setups. Over 150 upper and lower tool types are available from TRUMPF's library.

Built-In
Intelligence

The TruBend 3100 ships with a comprehensive standard feature set — and an array of optional upgrades that extend capability for demanding applications.

CNC Automatic Crowning

Combined CNC-controlled and self-adjusting crowning automatically compensates for frame deflection under load, ensuring consistent angles from one end of the 10-foot bed to the other on every bend.

Hydraulic Clamping

Optional hydraulic upper tool clamping enables rapid, parallel tool changes across the full bed — significantly reducing setup time between jobs compared to manual clamping systems.

TecZone Bend Offline Programming

Programs can be created offline using TecZone Bend — while the machine continues running production. Automatically generates NC programs from 2D and 3D CAD data in seconds, with a bend sequence suggestion included.

Front Support Arms

Two adjustable front linear support arms hold and support the workpiece at the correct height before and during the bend — reducing operator fatigue and improving angle consistency on long or heavy parts.

Laser Safety Light Curtains

Rear laser safety light curtains protect the backgauge area during operation. Side guards provide additional protection, and the foot pedal control integrates with BendGuard for comprehensive machine-wide safety coverage.

Why Closed Frame
Matters

Most press brakes in the 100-ton class use an open C-frame — a design that is simple to manufacture but inherently weaker. Under load, an open C-frame flexes, causing the throat to open slightly and introducing angular errors that worsen over time and with wear. Correcting for this requires constant operator attention and increased trial bending.

The TruBend 3100's closed H-frame design eliminates this weakness. By connecting both sides of the machine at top and bottom, the frame becomes a closed box — dramatically stiffer for its weight. The result is significantly less frame deflection under load, better angle repeatability, and longer-term geometric stability over the machine's service life.

The closed frame also provides a structural benefit for backgauge operation: because the frame closes at the bottom, the backgauge is free to travel the full length of the bed and operate right at either end of the machine — a practical advantage when bending parts with long flanges or when using the full 10-foot bed capacity.

Superior Rigidity

Closed frame resists deflection under load — greater stiffness than open C-frame designs of equal tonnage.

Better Angle Repeatability

Less frame flex means the programmed angle is maintained more consistently across the full bed and across long production runs.

Unrestricted Full-Bed Access

Backgauge travels the complete bed length without obstruction — enabling bending all the way to both machine ends.

Compact Footprint

The H-frame achieves high rigidity at a weight of 8,300 kg — in a space-saving design ideal for production floors where footprint matters.

Bending Methods Supported

The TruBend 3100 supports the full range of standard press brake operations — across air bending, bottom bending, hemming, and multi-stage forming — using TRUMPF's comprehensive tooling library.

Air Bending

Highly flexible method — punch contacts the material without reaching the die bottom, allowing angle variation without tool changes. Primary method for high-mix production.

Bottom Bending

Sheet is pressed firmly to the die bottom, producing tighter angles with minimal springback — ideal for close-tolerance work where maximum consistency is required.

Hemming

Pre-hem and flat hem operations for tight closed flanges and safety hems on sheet edges. The TruBend 3100's large installation height supports full two-stage hemming in a single setup.

Multi-Stage Programs

The T3500T control automatically calculates optimal bend sequences and repositions the 4-axis backgauge between each bend — running complex boxes, pans, and enclosures in a single uninterrupted program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the TruBend 3100 and precision press brake forming at Lasertech Metal Works.

The TRUMPF TruBend 3100 is a 110-ton, 10-foot CNC hydraulic press brake from TRUMPF's Series 3000 line. It features a closed H-frame design for high rigidity, ACB Laser non-contact optical angle measurement, 4-axis CNC backgauge expandable to 5 axes, CNC automatic crowning, BendGuard laser safety system, Safety-Click tooling, and a T3500T 17-inch multi-touch control with 3D visualization. It is the fastest press brake in its class.

The closed H-frame connects both sides of the machine at top and bottom, making it significantly stiffer than an open C-frame of the same tonnage. Less frame deflection under load means more consistent angles across the full bending length — and the backgauge can travel and operate at both ends of the machine without obstruction, enabling full unrestricted use of the entire 10-foot bed.

ACB Laser projects a laser line onto the sheet and uses a camera to measure the bend angle optically — with zero physical contact with the workpiece. This is ideal for sensitive, pre-coated, or film-protected materials where contact sensors could mark the surface. It measures angles from 30° to 150° with ±0.3° accuracy, and supports four measurement modes for different production scenarios.

BendGuard uses two laser beams extending from the upper tool to protect the hazard zone. If either beam is broken, the machine stops immediately. The key productivity benefit is that BendGuard allows the ram to travel at full rapid speed down to just 2mm above the sheet before slowing to working speed — unlike light curtains that must mute at a much higher point. This dramatically reduces non-productive stroke time and makes the TruBend 3100 the fastest machine in its class.

The TruBend 3100 is the right choice for light-to-medium gauge sheet metal in high-mix production environments where speed and flexibility are critical. The TruBend 5230 is better suited to thicker materials requiring 253 tons of press force, heavy plate work, and complex programs that benefit from the full 6-axis backgauge. At Lasertech, our team will review your drawings and recommend the optimal machine — or split work across both when it benefits your lead time.
